Meet Ken

Our Founding principal, Kenneth Sutherland, brings to you over twenty-two years of experience in the financial industry. His technical ability to provide detailed financial plans is complimented by his personal ability to guide, discern, listen, and relate warmly with his clients. His background is unique in providing the skills and expertise necessary to achieve your personal financial goals most effectively.
Ken received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon, and Master of Divinity Degree from Luther Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota. He began his professional career as a parish pastor. Seven years later, married to Kim and with a young family, he made a significant career change in order to have more time and resources to devote to his own family and community needs. Ken has experienced personally the value of carefully balancing your values, your vocation and your family.
Ken obtained is Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1994 as well as the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)designation in 2004, both from The American College in Byrn Mawr, Pennsylvania. In 2003 he formed his current business structure in Omaha, Nebraska which included a significant income tax practice. Building on his personal approach to financial planning Ken completed extensive training to become a Registered Financial Lifeplanner through the Kinder Institute of Life Planning. Ken is thrilled to have personally received this training from the founder of this movement, George Kinder. Most recently Ken was trained as a True Wealth Advisor through the Peak Training firm of Carson Wealth Management, named by Baron’s as one of the top independent firms in the nation.
In 2009 Ken and Kim took a significant step to implement their own financial “LifePlan.” They have dreamed of living on a lake near their children – someday. The financial lifeplanning process believes in living your passions “sooner rather than later.” In that spirit, as they faced their first empty nest year, they began taking steps to live full time in the lake home they purchase at Lake Royale in North Carolina. Ken sold his Omaha tax practice and corporate building, as well their Omaha residence. They now enjoy living full time at their North Carolina lake home.
Their children are all with-in an hour drive; Joel, a 2004 graduate of UNC owns a Web Page Design business in Chapel Hill; Alex a recent Mechanical Engineering and Trumpet Performance graduate of Iowa State was awarded a position with Teach for America in Warrenton, NC; Molly is a student at UNC, Chapel Hill.
Ken continues to serve existing clients in Nebraska while focusing on providing a “lifeplanning” approach to new clients in North Carolina. After having built a very successful full service financial practice he now enjoys helping individual clients discover and effectively implement their own "LifePlan."
